Now she comes running when she hears it activate. The instructions are pretty good so it was relatively easy to program the current time and then the two feeding cycles. You will have to just play around with how many "portions" you want it to dispense to match with how much you want to feed your cat (the recommendations in the instructions seem off to me and I think it really depends on the type of cat food you are using, etc.). Overall we like this feeder, it works and our cat likes it.

Jennifer Haines Oct 2025Verified BuyerIdk what people are talking about when they say it’s hard to program, it feeds the same portion no matter what setting it’s on or that the batteries don’t work as a back up if you lose power because I set it up without the manual in about one minute and have made different portions through the day to give my cat just enough to keep him happy between real feed times, and we lost power for seven hours on the 4th of July and the batteries did exactly what they were supposed to. Maybe I just got the best possible functioning model but it does everything it’s designed to. I will say that I’ve had much more complicated portion control feeders for cats in the past so I wasn’t new to the features from older models. This is the best one we have ever owned and my first one cost over $180 back in like 2010 so this is a great value.

The alert reminds me to feed the dog so they eat at the same time instead of separate. It is very tiny servings. I give my cat "Chunk" the healthy weight/indoor food and the "servings" for breakfast and dinner i think he gets like 5 servings from the machine because each spurt is so small. At 2pm I give him 2 servings, which is like 10 pieces of food for a snack. You can program it however much you need, that's just what I do. I also have an electric litter box, so when I go to the cabin for 2 or 3 nights, he is fine because the litter box and auto feeds. Battery backup is great because power went off last week for 13 hours and still feed him. It is a little noisy, but you get used to it. Compact enough to fit on his car tree.
